Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern

Pat Burns

Prior to God calling me to a mid-life career change, I was a Law Enforcement officer for almost 18 years serving our Northwest Florida Communities. I use these experiences combined with my training and education to assist my clients through their journey. I love working with adults and couples. I enjoy helping my clients overcome their trauma, stress, depression, and anxiety to a place of thriving. Post traumatic growth is possible but not spoken about enough. One of the techniques I use to help my clients to overcome trauma is Accelerated Resolution Therapy (A.R.T). Many of my male clients have found this technique is also helpful in treating addiction to pornography. Through my work with couples, I have learned communication in marriages is often the root of conflict. I enjoy working with couples to improve their communication and their connection. During my masters degree program I completed Gottman Level One training and have been using it since.

My style is very client-focused for two reasons: first, you know your life story best; second, your ability to trust and speak openly with me is going to help you achieve better results. My job is to help you come to the best solutions for your life. That may take the form of using Cognitive Behavioral techniques, a Brief Solutions focus or Mindfulness. Whatever approach best fits each individual client is the route I take. In addition to talk therapy, I can also provide financial coaching, which is another
effective tool that can help bring clients emotional freedom. I look forward to working with you!
