Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern

Erika Peters

I have always known that I wanted to help people for as long as I can remember. I worked as a Victim Advocate in the military for 15 years, where I recognized the need for more support in the area of mental health. I am now in my final term of graduate school, working towards my M.S. in Counseling from Troy University. I hold a B.S. in Criminal Justice. During my internship, I gained experience working in private practice with children, adults, and couples. My 28 years as a military member have given me the opportunity to experience different cultures, develop resilience, and encounter many unique situations. As a veteran, I have a strong desire to support the military community in overcoming adversity.

As I continue working towards licensure, I am committed to being fully trained and skilled to meet the needs of each individual. I have been trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma-informed techniques, the Gottman Method (Level 1), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy. My goal is to help children and adults lead enriched and meaningful lives using holistic approaches to counseling. I have experience working with individuals dealing with substance abuse, trauma, anxiety, and depression. My aim is to meet your needs and provide you with the necessary tools to better handle life's challenges.
